I Pledge Allegiance "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
The original
draft of the pledge is said to have been written in 1892
by James B. Upham, a magazine publisher in Boston. The
first version was: "I pledge allegiance to my flag and
to the republic for which it stands; one nation
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." In 1939,
the U.S. Flag Association concluded the pledge's author
was Francis Bellamy. |
