The story about how many returning Vietnam War veterans were treated disrespectfully by some Americans is well known and in some cases captured in photographs and videos. The impact of how citizens and the media poorly treated Vietnam War veterans left such a negative impression on many of them that they made a solemn pledge: We will work together so that no future generation of combat veterans will receive the treatment we did when we came home.
The VFW is proud that many Vietnam veterans use their involvement in our organization in part to help keep this promise. PA VFW News would like to share how Vietnam veterans have taken action to show veterans who served after them—including those serving today—that they have their backs. If you would like to share a few sentences about how your “coming home” experience led you to support troops overseas, welcome them back and support them afterward, please send your comments to Department Communications Director David Sandman at [email protected] Please include your name, age, town, Post number, branch of service and where you served during the Vietnam War, along with a current headshot photo (photo is not required to participate). Mr. Sandman would like to receive comments as soon as possible. Do not use Facebook to respond, please send email.
Thank you, Vietnam veterans, for helping to lead America in supporting its returning troops and all veterans for their service regardless of where and when they served.
