This section promotes veteran-owned businesses (VOB) in Pennsylvania and legislation that would expand opportunities for VOBs.
If you want your VOB listed here please email the name of your business, the type of services/products you provide, contact information and a website address to [email protected]
If you are aware of either state or federal legislation that would benefit VOBs please email [email protected] with the official name and reference number for the bill. All VOB owners are encouraged to contact their state and federal lawmakers to support bills creating new business opportunities in part by requiring government agencies to spend a percentage of their expenditures using with VOBs, just as they must do so with businesses owned by women and minorities.
VA Update on VOBs – The SBA recently released information regarding veteran businesses. According to the Census Bureau, in 2007 there were 2.45 million businesses with majority ownership by veterans. Of these, 491,000 were employers and 1.956 million were nonemployers. They represented 9 percent of all U.S. firms. Nearly one third of all veteran-owned firms were in two industry groups: construction and professional, scientific, and technical services. By state, California, Texas, Florida, New York, and Georgia had the largest numbers of veteran-owned businesses. Ranked by the veteran-owned percentage of businesses in the state, the top five states were South Carolina, West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, and Alabama.
Attention Veteran Owned-Business and Companies that Support Our Veterans and Military:
The central PA ABC affiliate acb27-WHTM, based in Harrisburg, is producing a series that honors veterans and military personnel. As part of the project, the station is encouraging its viewers to donate to the VFW Foundation’s “Return the Favor” campaign to support the VFW’s military and veterans service programs. All donations will be returned to the PA Department for use in helping Pennsylvania veterans and military personnel who are experiencing hardship. Sponsors for the TV news series are needed and will receive broad exposure during the campaign and in promotions leading up to each series program. Click here to view the “VFW Return the Favor Flyer” outlining how the series will run. If you want to sponsor the series use the email address in the flyer to learn about the different sponsorship levels. Your participation as a donor or sponsor will directly benefit veterans and military personnel right here in Pennsylvania.
